This month CJM MUSIC celebrates its 30th birthday. Three decades of music and ministry — and in this special anniversary episode, Jo Boyce sits down with two of the people who have been at the heart of it all.
Andrew Moss has been a familiar face in the line-up even before CJM MUSIC officially existed — in fact, Andrew first met co-founder Mike Stanley all the way back in 1993, through a Roger Jones musical in Birmingham. Claire Wilson, our violinist, first crossed paths with Jo and Mike in a recording studio in Oxford in the early 2000s, putting down string quartet parts for CJM favourites — Bread of Life and May Your Love — in, as she puts it, “the worst possible key for string players ever.”

Together, Jo Andrew and Claire look back over thirty years of music ministry — the memories, the moments, the conviction that has driven everything CJM MUSIC has made and done.
We hear how Andrew and Claire each found their way into the CJM MUSIC story — from early recording sessions, Big Sing Liturgy Thing events and legendary 5:30am van journeys. Mike Stanley is very much present in the conversation too, thirteen years on, in the music we still sing and the way we still show up for the ministry he helped build. And Jo looks ahead to the next chapter, a season she describes as being as much about teaching and handing on to others as it is about continuing face-to-face ministry — because, as the conversation makes clear, there is power when music is kept live.

Jo congratulations on 30 years of this wonderful ministry. I remember meeting you, with Mike, in Birmingham 30 years ago and encouraging you both. I was with Pat Barker, both of us from Upton Hall School ,Wirral. You may or may not remember that. We have been great supporters of you ever since. Both of us retired now!!

Great podcast really enjoyed it. I first saw you & Mike many years ago at a concert at the Mount, I was standing in the queue for refreshments at the interval and Mike came up and started singing Ave Maria it was a special moment. I went to many concerts afterwards and bought all your CD’s. I saw you at Pope Benedict’s visit and at Lourdes. I remember being at a concert somewhere in Birmingham and we didn’t think Mike was appearing because he was ill. To our surprise he appeared he walked down the aisle singing “Dear Elizabeth” there wasn’t a dry eye in the church! That was a very special moment! He was a wonderful guy, what a great legacy he has left, he will always be remembered 🙏 I have listened to your music on the beach when I go to Corfu and when I visit the little chapel on the hill there I play Mike singing Salve Regina and you can hear it as you look out to sea from the chapel on the hill, so special. Thanks CJM for 30 years, long may it continue.
