A message from Yvonne & Mike Stanley

Dear friends of CJM,

It’s been a while since Mike wrote to update you on how life has been.  We would, first and foremost, like to say thank you for all the messages, cards, prayers and Masses that we have received over the past two years.

Through so many rounds of chemotherapy and treatment, Mike has continued to find inspiration and strength. He has written many beautiful songs, which we hope will mean as much to you as they do to us.

When you are given the diagnosis of cancer, the shock is overwhelming. Unfortunately for Mike the prognosis was never good, and our first priority was to protect our three children. We made the decision to take a step back and deal with things privately, but we always knew that people were thinking of us and held us in their thoughts and prayers.

To see Mike write and produce and record has been a miracle in itself – an answer to so many prayers, even if not specifically what people were praying for…

Mike has been remarkably positive and strong through this journey. It has, at times, been very hard and emotional; but he has also been blessed to spend time with loved ones and even have some opportunities to perform and sing.

Recent months have brought more challenges and, sadly, in January we were told that treatment was no longer viable.

Mike has finalised many of his songs; and they are very precious to us, as they represent the inspiration and hope that Mike continues to hold dear despite all that is going on.

We would like to thank Jo, and those who have worked with her, for keeping the amazing ministry that is CJM going. Long may it continue to be loved and supported by you all.

Faith has been a part of this journey for us all. Please continue to pray for us. Your prayers and thoughts are hugely valued – both for Mike now – and in thanksgiving for the blessings that you may have known through his music over the years.

We are sure you will understand and appreciate that our priority is now to spend the time he has left with our three boys and each other, and we respectfully ask that you please value our need for privacy.

Thank you.

With love and prayers,

Yvonne & Mike

  1. Of course, like everyone who knows and loves CJM, I am devastated. I have a huge respect and love for Mike, built up over the years, and the idea of a world without him is almost unbearable. Your ministry is a shining light in the darkness, and your music will justifiably live on for centuries to come.
    Jo: keep it up.
Mike, Yvonne: you are loved even more than you know.

  2. Thank you for the update on Mike. Prayers are continuously with you. God Bless the Stanley family. A special thank you to Mike for the many gifts he has given to all of us. We are so blessed that God brought us together.

    1. Mike, Yvonne, Family – I can’t express adequate words at this time, but do know that we are praying for you. We feel gutted for you, and in a small way share in your journey, but can never be in your place. What I do know is that nothing will ever separate you all from his love, and therefore from each other. This knowledge will not take away the pain but will be a strength to keep moving on. Lord bless you and keep you!

  13. So sad to hear your news. Thank you for creating the sound track to our lives… You were there when I did my RCIA course, you were there at our parish mission, in the delivery suite when I produced our beloved daughter, on the beach with me in my headphones, in India when I was working with street kids, on countless car journeys, in the background at countless dinner parties and most specially us in Lourdes inspiring our daughter to get into music.
We are praying for a miracle.
    Much love,

  14. May God bless you all and keep you close to his heart, giving strength and guidance. A voice in the wilderness, shining light and hope where before there was only darkness. Your music has and always will be an inspiration, not only to myself but I’m sure to many.

  17. Dear Mike and Yvonne,
So sorry to hear the latest developments. I travel to Rome tomorrow as part of my sabbatical and then I move on to Jerusalem in June. I will remember you especially in St. Peter’s and the Holy Places in Israel.
    Love and prayers,
    Mark

  18. What can you say, except we are all devastated. The whole family will be in our prayers at S. Mark’s Kingstanding and as we prepare for the Walsingham Youth Pligrimage. It is quite rare for the music of CJM not to be in our Sunday Mass, the mass of Saint Bernardette is very popular and a lot of individual songs as well. Yes, your music and ministry will live on for years through our voices and instruments and all of you in the CJM ‘famiy’ in our hearts.

Mike, Yvonne know everyone has a place in their hearts and prayers for you all here.

  19. Mike, Yvonne and family, My prayers are with you.
Your music has been an inspiration to me over many years – thank you so much.

  20. Dear Mike and Yvonne, be assured I am keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. May the Lord bless you and keep, may he guard you and guide you, may he be your strength for the journey. Your music and ministry has given so much joy and happiness to so many people and touched so many lives.

    God Bless

  21. Dear Mike, thank you so much for letting me be part of the recordings for the new liturgy. it has been a joy and inspiration to work with you and your music and ministry continue to hold a special part in our lives here at Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School and in our Parish of St Mary’s. I fist came upon ‘Born For this’ when teaching in Lincoln in the 1990’s and was finally able to meet you and Jo when we moved here to Cannock, what an inspiration that was and continues to be as we perform Born For This every Easter in our Parish community. We will continue to pray for you, Yvonne and your lovely boys as part of our school and Parish commuinity. Newman House will continue to pray for you and thank you again Mike for all you are and for your faith and devotion to God. Love and prayers, Jo Burrowes.

  22. Just found out this news via one of my students today. I am, like so many others, devastated. I was not aware till a few minutes ago that Mike was even ill, and over 2 years too…

Mike and Yvonne, though I may not have seen you for many years, my thoughts are with you. I am proud that Mike and I wrote good songs together. I am with you in spirit in these days…

  23. Just to say you are all in my prayers. My daughter introduced CJM Music to the parish with great success (they are a great parish!) and I value the time at Loud and Clear where your music so enriched the liturgies. May God enfold you all in his love and power. Kathryn

  24. Dear Mike and family,
I am sitting here stunned and saddened, but the truth is that because of this incredible body of work you have produced , you will always have a presence, you will always touch peoples lives and make those lives richer.
    Your friend

  26. We wish you and your family all the best and we thank you for the beautifull songs we heard from you in Lourdes

  27. I have only learned of this now. Mike’s music has played an important part of our parish life, whether it be during our Masses (especially for First Communion Masses which are coming up in a few weeks) or at our primary and secondary school. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, and I will also ask others to add their prayers for him. God bless. – May Iglesias-Gaza, 1030 Mass choir leader, St. Michael and St. Martin’s parish Hounslow.

  28. Yvonne, Mike, we have never met and I haven’t worked much with CJM but I am currently working with Jo to put together a Year of Faith event. I am listening through the songs that we will sing and are being truly inspired. Thank you for using the gift you have been given. How gently but completely Gods word comes from your songs. The legacy of your work with Jo and the band will reap a harvest for eternity. Thank you

  29. We are so sorry to hear the sad news that Mike has passed away. He was one of the nicest people who ever walked the earth and he will be sadly missed. Our condolences go to Yvonne and the boys and we will keep you all in our prayers. Mike will be remembered for generations to come through the wonderful ministry of his music. Love and Godbless from Kevin and Jane Goodyear

  30. To Yvonne and Mikes family
I used to work with Mike at Solihouse in 1991 and I am so sad to hear the news. Mike was a truly good man, a spiritual inspiration with a warm smile and a talent to make others happy. I am coincidentally going back to Solihouse for a reunion today after 20 years and I will keep you all in my prayers.
    Love Sam ( Priestley)

  31. This is a terrible loss, not only to his friends and family who loved him so dearly, but his wonderful music and beautiful voice are lost to us all. All his family are in the prayers of many of us.
