We’d love to hear from you in the comments below…

A beautiful psalm but far too secular of a melody and speed for public liturgy which does not lead to much contemplation.
What a pity.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, James. You are, of course entitled to your preference… We have found, though, that this setting works really well in the contexts that we most often find ourselves – even in a typical parish Sunday Mass. And for Gaudete Sunday, captures something of the joyful anticipation and urgent longing for the coming of our Saviour. What gift it is to have such a breadth of musical style and cultural expression available to us as we celebrate the liturgy.
We sang the refrain like this on Sunday and the verses with a psalm tone well known by our congregation.
The simplicity of the few words in the refrain led to much contemplation…sometimes we sang with instruments sometimes just voices … and honestly the emotions of sincere urgent, deep and desperate prayer rose through our congregation. It was very special 🙏
